The winter transfer window is in full swing, meaning to prepare for all sorts of last minute rumours linking your club to any somewhat relevant footballer the media can think of. We begin with AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, a recent target for Premier League leaders Chelsea.
The Blues aren’t exactly blessed with depth in central midfield following the transfer of Oscar to SIPG Shanghai for £60 million, meaning there’s a vacancy to be filled and some spare change lying around Stamford Bridge.
Bakayoko is a tenacious midfielder who has played a key role in Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals, as well as their qualification to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
The 22-year-old has expressed his desire to see out the current season with Monaco before thinking about his future, but the urgency of Chelsea may prompt the French under-21 international to realize his dream to play in the Premier League.
“I won’t leave Monaco this winter, that’s a certainty. I don’t want to leave,” said Bakayoko.
Perhaps Chelsea fans shouldn’t expect any sudden movement from the Monaco midfielder after he’s been quoted making assurances such as this, but he gave no such guarantees regarding what could happen following this season.
“Of course, the Premier League makes you dream but I have no reason to leave this winter.”
Premier League viewers will have the chance to see Tiemoue Bakayoko in action against Manchester City in the Round of 16 of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place in England.
