The Canary Islands native was tipped for greatness, with even Barcelona giving a fight to sign him to La Masia, but Jese Rodriguez chose Real Madrid ahead of the Catalans.
Since making his debut in 2011, Rodriguez hasn’t quite hit the expected heights, and he was deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu last summer despite a transfer ban awaiting the club.
The 23-year-old was sold to PSG for €25million, but his struggles at the Parc des Princes have continued, and the club is now more than willing to let him go. Liverpool and Las Palmas have reportedly shown interest, but where should Jese Rodriguez move to next?
Having made just 1 Ligue 1 start and 8 as a sub, it’s clear that Jese has been sparsely used PSG, no thanks to his own poor form.
Things won’t get any better at Anfield where Klopp is chasing the Premier League title. Even the great Daniel Sturridge has permanently settled for a bit-part role, and Jese won’t be breaking into that lineup anytime soon.
Like PSG manager Unai Emery said, the forward has to be playing more frequently if he is to get near the expected level, and that can at least happen at Las Palmas.
The mid-table La Liga team could do with his experience and even aspire for a top 6 finish with him within their attacking firepower ranks.
Having been born in the city, returning home to where the fans adore him might prove the solution to Jese’s problems.
It’s exactly where he should go to salvage his career, and the earlier the better for the once-promising attacker.
Anywhere else apart from Las Palmas could be another disaster waiting to happen.
