According to the latest reports from Spain, Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona in the race for the highly-rated River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios.
It’s nothing new the arch-rivals compete on multiple fronts, not only on the field. The two La Liga heavyweights have been involved in numerous transfer sagas in the past, with the last one concerning Exequiel Palacios.
The 20-year-old midfielder has imposed himself as one of the most promising youngsters in South America during a previous couple of seasons. Only this year, Palacios has been one of the crucial players that have led River Plate to the Copa Libertadores final.
The Spanish news outlet, Sport, have reported Los Blancos have virtually secured the player’s signature in front of Barca’s noses.

With Luka Modric’s departure increasingly likely, Real Madrid must find a suitable replacement, and the Palacios seems to be their first choice.
Meanwhile, the Catalans have been monitoring the situation for a while, but the reigning European champions allegedly made decisive steps towards the conclusion of the deal.
Palacios should arrive at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, with Real reportedly splashed out €20 million to persuade Los Millonarios to give a green light.
