RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer will reportedly be at the center of a tug of war between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the summer
Both Premier League sides have endured an underwhelming season in domestic championship and abroad and will be looking to restore themselves to Europe’s elite next year.
Mikel Arteta hopes to perform a massive overhaul of a squad that seems unable to reach the top-four finish and has already exited the UEFA Europa League.
With Granit Xhaka playing well below his standards since being stripped of the club captaincy and Mesut Ozil’s Emirates future still hanging in the balance, Arteta has focused on finding a top-class midfielder.
But, Jose Mourinho intends to throw a spanner in Arteta’s works, as he also looks to lure Sabitzer away from the Bundesliga in the summer, particularly in light of his eye-catching Champions League performances.
The 25-year-old has 15 goals in all competitions to his name, including two he managed in the return leg of Leipzig’s last-16 tie against Tottenham on Tuesday night.
Sabitzer has reportedly impressed the ‘Special One’ during their Champions League two-legged tie and is now a frontrunner to replace the out-of-favor Tanguy Ndombele, who may leave north London in the summer.
The French midfielder has fallen out with Mourinho for his lackadaisical attitude and could be shown the door at the end of the season.
