AC Milan have come close to beating Arsenal and a host of Serie A clubs to the signing of Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout, according to the reports from Italy
The Rossoneri are looking to start a new cycle after parting ways with Gennaro Gattuso, with Marco Giampaolo said to be the prime candidate to take his place on the bench.
Ivan Gazidis and Milan’s recruitment team have already brought in Rade Krunic from Empoli in accordance with the Italian tactician and have now set their sights on the Viola playmaker.
After a frustrating two-year spell at Aston Villa, the Frenchman has enjoyed a successful loan spell at St. Etienne before joining Fiorentina in 2017.
Ever since landing at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the 26-year-old has started to demonstrate his class, becoming one of the best players in his position in the Italian top-tier competition.
Previously tracked by Arsenal, Sevilla, Napoli, AS Roma, and Atalanta, Veretout has been one of the rare bright spots in the struggling Fiorentina team last term.
Destined to leave Florence in the summer, Veretout could end up at the Stadio San Siro, according to the Italian outlet, Calciomercato.
Although the player’s price tag has yet to be unveiled, the former France U21 international will probably cost around €20m.
