Manchester City have reportedly defeated cross-town rivals Manchester United to the signing of the highly-rated Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake
According to the Metro, Manchester City and Bournemouth have found an agreement for the transfer of Ake to the Etihad in the summer on the basis of £35million.
Pep Guardiola is desperate to reinforce his backline after an underwhelming season, where City surrendered the Premier League to Liverpool.
Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones are both expected to leave the Etihad in the coming months after reeling off a series of mediocre performances, which would leave Guardiola short of defensive options.
However, the Sky Blues have already sealed the deal with Bournemouth, which will see Ake swap allegiances when the transfer window reopens for business.
News about the Dutchman’s imminent move to the Etihad come as a huge blow to the Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was hopeful of landing the former Chelsea man until recently.
Indeed, the Norwegian manager labeled the 25-year-old as a perfect left-sided defensive partner for Harry Maguire.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, Manchester City have managed to close things out with the Cherries and will see Ake join the team once the season is completed.
The Dutch centre-back has established himself as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League since arriving at Bournemouth from Chelsea in 2017.
Despite making over 120 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side over the past three years, Ake was destined to leave Vitality Stadium in the upcoming period.
With Bournemouth seemingly heading towards relegation, they are unlikely to ward off suitors for their prized assets like they did last summer.
