Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has heaped praise on his team’s mentality following another success in Serie A
The Nerazzurri maintained a 100% league start with a narrow 1-0 home triumph over Lazio, with Danilo D’Ambrosio scoring the winning goal for the home side in the 23rd minute.
It was Inter’s fifth Serie A triumph from as many games this term, fourth in which they’ve prevented their opponents from finding the back of the net.
More importantly, they have managed to defeat two direct competitors for the Champions League promotion slots in five days having previously outscored arch-rivals AC Milan 2-0.
During the post-match interview, Conte has given his verdict on Inter’s game in both halves, insisting he is happy about his team’s mental growth.
“It was a tough, important victory against a very strong side, who have been working together for four years and have done nothing but strengthen in recent seasons. It was by no means an easy win to get,” the Italian said, as reported by Inter’s official website.
“When analyzing the game, you have to split it into two parts. I wasn’t happy in the first half, we started aggressively, we looked to stay high, and they tried to hurt us on the break.
“Then after the goal we sat back too much, allowing Lazio to come onto us and Handanovic was excellent in that period, he made the difference.
“However, the team showed great character in the second half. We dominated and made sure of our success. All that was missing was the goal to kill the game off. We should have done better with our chances in the second half.
“Five wins in a row are no coincidence, we still have to grow a lot more, but we’re getting the right mentality,” he concluded.
The Milanese giants travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday to take on Sampdoria, looking to maintain a promising start and post their third straight away win in league head-to-heads.
