Arsenal could be on the verge of signing sought-after Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes after seeing their bid accepted by the French outfit
Lille have green-lighted Arsenal’s £27million offer for in-demand centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, according to the French outlet Le 10 Sport as relayed by the Express Sport.
However, Napoli have matched the Gunners’ proposal, which could throw a spanner in the works of the proposed deal.
It is now up to Gabriel to decide which team he wants to join, and the decision is expected to be communicated in the coming days.
Mikel Arteta is keen to reinforce his fragile backline in the summer, particularly in light of Shkodran Mustafi’s long-term injury.
The Spanish manager has labeled his defense as the team’s weakest link following a leaky season and is desperate to improve his options for next term.

Gabriel, who joined Lille from the Brazilian outfit Avai in 2017, made 23 Ligue 1 starts for Les Dogues in 2019/20 before the coronavirus pandemic curtailed proceedings in France.
Arteta is crying out for a left-footed central defender, and the 22-year-old Brazilian perfectly fits the bill.
Widely-regarded as one of the most promising young centre-halves in Europe’s top-five leagues, Gabriel would be a notable upgrade to both Sead Kolasinac and Rob Holding.
The two have failed to impress former Manchester City assistant manager after producing a series of underwhelming performances last term.
