Arsenal won’t make a move for Ajax standout performer Hakim Ziyech in spite of the player’s desire to link up with his ‘idol’ Mesut Ozil
One of the protagonists of the Lancers’ great success in both the Eredivisie and the Champions League scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions last season.
Although the Moroccan’s astonishing displays drew attention from several major European clubs, the attacking midfielder has his heart set on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
When asked about his favorite teams back in 2017, the 26-year-old said: “Well, I have two clubs. They are Arsenal and Barcelona. That is my ultimate dream.”
He has also named Arsenal talisman Mesut Ozil as his footballing idol: “Yes, I actually do have one. [Mesut] Ozil.”
However, Ziyech’s calls to join the Premier League giants have reportedly fallen on the Gunners’ deaf ears.
The North Londoners have closely examined the prospect of acquiring the former Twente man but have eventually decided against lodging an offer for Ajax star.
Arsenal’s decision not to go after Ziyech has come after due diligence, with Unai Emery focusing his attention towards other targets.
The Spaniard is desperate to land Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, but the Eagles’ staggering demands threaten to ruin Emery’s plans.
