Arsenal have approached RB Leipzig with a massive offer for the highly-regarded centre-back Dayot Upamecano, according to the latest reports from England and Germany
Two clean sheets in the last 16 outings have made it clear Unai Emery has to bolster his defensive options if he looks to challenge other Premier League giants for a top-four finish.
This is what Dayot Upamecano would bring to Arsenal😍— WorldwideArsenal™ (@WorldwideAFC) August 5, 2019
With the skipper, Laurent Koscielny, on his way to Bordeaux the Gunners need a reliable central defender to partner Sokratis after Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding both proved error-prone.
As a result, the North London outfit has recently submitted a €60million bid for Dayot Upamecano, who has also been followed by AC Milan this transfer window.
But, the Red Bulls have no intention of depriving themselves of the Frenchman’s services, which is why Arsenal saw their initial offer rejected by the Germans.
Upamecano has been identified as Arsenal’s preferred defensive target, but Leipzig are understood to be reluctant to allow him to leave despite only having two years left on his contract, while it is believed Arsenal are yet to submit an official bid for him. Julian Nagelsmann sees the 20-year-old as an integral part of his team for the next season and won’t let him go unless someone matches his €100million release clause.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are also keeping tabs on Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, who won’t find enough game time in Turin next season following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt.
