Arsenal set sights on Porto stalwart Danilo Pereira

Arsenal have reportedly named Porto’s Danilo Pereira as their main midfield target for the summer after being put off the idea to sign Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to land a proven box-to-box midfielder to his fragile midfield line and has identified Partey as his prime objective for the summer transfer window.

However, the Ghanaian’s £55million release clause has deterred the Premier League side from making a move, as his massive price tag is out of reach for the Gunners amid the coronavirus crisis.

Therefore, Arteta has set his sights on the Porto stalwart, Danilo Pereira, who could be available for around £18m, as reported by the Daily Express.

Danilo’s contract at the Dragao runs out at the end of the next season, and the Primeira Liga giants are ready to sanction his transfer this summer to avoid the risk of losing their captain for free in less than 12 months.

Although the 28-year-old midfielder has a £55m release clause, the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis has forced Porto to drop their demands to a third of that figure.

Danilo’s composure on the ball and his strong midfield presence make him a perfect addition to Arsenals’ midfield that’s about to lose Dani Ceballos, who will return to Real Madrid after failing to impress during his season-long loan spell at the Emirates.

In addition to the 23-year-old Spaniard, Matteo Guendouzi could also be shown the door at the end of the season after reeling off a series of underwhelming performances during Arteta’s tenure.
