Barcelona and AC Milan plot moves for wantaway Manchester United forward

Wantaway Manchester United star Jesse Lingard could venture outside the Premier League borders for the first time in his career if his two-decade association with the club comes to a close at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, AC Milan and Barcelona are ready to go head-to-head for out-of-favor Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard if he cuts ties with the Red Devils next summer.

The 28-year-old has less than a year remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford and has yet to commit to a new deal despite the club’s attempts to tie him down to fresh terms.

Lingard left Man United to join West Ham on a six-month loan in the second half of last season after finding his first-team opportunities hard to come by under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

His decision to link up with the London Stadium outfit turned out to be a massive success, as he underwent quite a renaissance under David Moyes in the capital.

The winger’s blistering showings for West Ham saw him surge back into England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2020, though he would eventually fail to make the final cut.

Yet, Lingard has continued to impress the Three Lions gaffer Gareth Southgate, who has included the Man United misfit in his team across both previous international windows.

In fact, the Old Trafford homegrown star received more game time from Southgate than he has from Solskjaer in the early exchanges this season.

Despite finding his first-team prospects under the Norwegian boss at a premium, Lingard has netted twice in the Premier League this term, including a late winner against West Ham in mid-September.

However, the winger has made his decision to make England’s squad for next year’s World Cup finals abundantly clear, opening the door for a potential winter exit.

The Red Devils are thought to be considering selling Lingard in the January transfer window for approximately £15million.
