Barcelona have reportedly been forced back into the transfer market following the injury of Luis Suarez, according to reports from England
Although the initial forecasts suggested Suarez will remain on the sidelines for a few weeks, it has been confirmed that he will be forced out of action until May after undergoing surgery on his knee on Sunday.
The Catalans have recently released a statement about their striker’s injury via the club’s official Twitter account, saying: “The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months.”
Since Suarez is the only true centre-forward at Ernesto Valverde’s disposal, the British outlet, Evening Standard, indicate Barcelona will try to sign a new striker in January.
Valverde can still deploy Antoine Griezmann as his central attacker, but the reigning La Liga holders, nonetheless, need another attacking option to keep their squad competitive in both Spain and Europe.
Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has been in the crosshairs of Barcelona since last summer, but his staggering €111million release clause makes it impossible for the Camp Nou outfit to complete the transfer this winter.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani seems to be an affordable solution, especially after tumbling down the pecking order in Paris, with less than six months left on his current contract.
