Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on the outgoing Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth, according to the latest reports in England
The Catalans are looking to reinforce their defensive options ahead of the new season, with Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo expected to leave Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Since the club stalwart Gerard Pique entered the twilight years of his career, the reigning La Liga holders are keen to find younger alternatives to join the experienced Spaniard.
As reported by the Express Sport, Barcelona are interested in the out-of-favor Tottenham centre-back Juan Foyth, who has lost his place in Spurs’ team following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure.
Indeed, the Argentinean manager brought in his compatriot from Estudiantes for £8million in 2017 and immediately integrated him into his regular set-up.
However, ever since Jose Mourinho replaced Pochettino, the 22-year-old has struggled for first-team opportunities, frequently finding himself behind Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Davinson Sanchez in the pecking order.
Mourinho is reportedly ready to give up Foyth’s services after introducing the highly-rated Japhet Tanganga into the senior squad, with the player also favoring a transfer.
A versatile defender, capable of playing in the heart of the backline and also covering the right-back position, Foyth could be a valuable asset for Quique Setien at Barcelona.
Since the transfer seems to be beneficial for all the sides involved, the deal could really take place when the transfer window opens for business in the summer.
