The Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could be heading back to Spain should his struggling for form continues after the international break
Arrived from Marseille in 2012, the Spanish defender has nailed down the right-back position as his own but has also been deployed as a central defender during his seven-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
The 30-year-old has stumbled upon critics for his underwhelming performances at the beginning of the new season, as well as, the rest of the Blues backline that has allowed nine goals in the opening four rounds of the Premier League fixtures.
Azpilicueta’s recent displays have brought his starting lineup status into question, and according to Express, Atheltic Bilbao and Real Sociedad would be willing to offer him an escape route from London in January.
The former Osasuna youth academy product failed to live up to expectations this term and could be sacrificed in favor of the homegrown rising star Reece James.

Fresh from a successful loan spell at Wigan Athletic, the 19-year-old will stake his claim for the right-back position as soon as he recovers from an ankle injury.
Lampard has already demonstrated that he encourages youngster’s development, having already introduced Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount, and Tammy Abraham into his senior squad.
The new Pensioners boss is said to be willing to do the same with James if Azpilicueta continues to underperform in the forthcoming period.
