Bayern Munich have reportedly come up with a new plan to persuade Manchester City to sanction the transfer of Leroy Sane, reports in Germany say
Bayern were persistent in their intention to sign Sane last summer, but City were adamant their star winger is not for sale, forcing the Bavarians to exercise the plan B and wrap up Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan.
But, the perennial Bundesliga champions have never lost their interest in the 24-year-old forward and are looking to make a fresh bid as soon as the transfer reopens.
As per the German publication, Bild, Bayern will try to tempt the Citizens into selling by offering the services of the versatile defender, David Alaba, who has always been one of the players Pep Guardiola wanted in his ranks.
Indeed, the Spaniard wanted the Austria international during his tenure at Barcelona and has made him one of the best defenders in Europe after taking charge of Bayern.
Bayern presented the idea of a Sané x Alaba swap deal to Alaba's new agent Pini Zahavi. Zahavi then had talks with Man City. City wanted the deal, but Alaba did not. The 27-year-old has been an indispensable first-team player for Bayern during the past decade, but with the signing of Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies’ impressive breakthrough season, he has lost his place in the starting eleven this season.
Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi has already approached City to propose the idea, which seems to have been taken well be the reigning Premier League holders.
Sane is understood to be favoring a return to his native country and has been working on recovering from a long-term injury to be ready to seal the move at the end of the season.
His contract at the Etihad is due to expire in 2021, and various reports in England suggest he has no interest in renewing it.
