Benzema can’t wait to pair up with Kylian Mbappe at Euro 2020

Real Madrid stalwart Karim Benzema insists he cannot wait to team up with Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe in the French national team.

Didier Deschamps has recently announced his 26-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 as France look to win the trophy for the first time since 2000.

His decision to include Benzema in the squad came as a massive surprise. Deschamps banished the striker from the national team six years ago in the wake of the latter’s alleged involvement in a sex tape scandal.

Indeed, the 33-year-old was left out of France’s run to the 2016 Euro runners-up finish and their imperious charge to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title after falling out with French Football Federation.

However, Anthony Martial’s injury-hit second half of the season with Manchester United has forced Deschamps’ hand. After being omitted by the coach for the World Cup in Russia, Martial has had another stroke of bad luck.

Benzema has been picked by the gaffer to fill the void left by the 25-year-old’s omission as Les Bleus hope to improve on their second-place finish five years ago.

The Real Madrid talisman has yet to share the pitch with Kylian Mbappe, whom he keeps in high esteem. The star duo is expected to lead the line when France tackle Germany in their Group F opener on June 15.

And Benzema is looking forward to linking up with the PSG forward, who has emerged as Madrid’s top target for the upcoming transfer window.

“It’s clear I’ve had a lot of feedback,” the veteran forward told Onze Mondial. “It can be only easy [to play with Mbappe].

“It’s true that he’s a young player, but very, very talented. I like his movements, how he plays football. Now it’s up to us to get along well on the pitch, but anyway, I have no doubts about that.

“Still, we should not focus on the Mbappe-Benzema duo. There are many very talented players in this team: [Antoine] Griezmann, [Olivier] Giroud, [Paul] Pogba, [Ousmane] Dembele, [Kingsley] Coman, [Wissam] Ben Yedder.

“The danger can come from anywhere and that is so much better for France.”
