Benzema is in best form of his career

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has acknowledged Karim Benzema is enjoying the best time of his footballing career.

Benzema has been one of Real Madrid’s most consistent performers throughout the years. Even though he was forced to play in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo for ten years, the Frenchman has always been reliable when called into action. Many were skeptical about his ability to shoulder the goalscoring burden following Ronaldo’s departure for Juventus in 2018. However, Benzema has managed to excel in Madrid and silence his critics.

Only last season, the 33-year-old striker clocked up 27 goals and 11 assists in all competitions to finish 2019/20 as Real Madrid’s top scorer. Benzema’s tally of 21 goals scored in La Liga was only four goals shy of Lionel Messi’s record of 25, which put him at the top of the scoring charts in Spain back last season. However, the French star has refused to stop this term, adding 11 goals and five assists to his name already.

Indeed, Benzema is not only Real Madrid’s best scorer in 2020/21 so far, but he has been by far the most decisive player in the team. Apart from being the best assist provider with five set-ups for his teammates, the former Lyon man has unleashed more total shots (40) and shots on target (18) than any other Los Blancos’ player.

As such, it’s safe to say that Benzema is playing his A-game this season despite being in the autumn of his career. Zidane is also well aware of how significant his countryman has been for Real Madrid in recent times, hailing his current form as the best of his career.

“I think so, yes. Most recently, he’s been in his best form. What he’s doing recently, he’s been phenomenal,” Zidane had no doubt when asked if Benzema is at his best at the moment [via Goal.com].

“What’s yet to come? I think Karim can even get better than he is now – that’s what we all hope, for the team, for him, personally.

“On top, it’s his ambition. He wants to get better as well as a player. That’s very important.”
