Real Betis veteran Joaquin Sanchez wrote his name down in history on Sunday early afternoon as the oldest player to score a hat-trick in La Liga
The Andalusian outfit clinched a 3-2 home triumph over Athletic Bilbao, and it was their captain, Joaquin, who orchestrated Betis’ third consecutive league success.
Although Inaki Williams and Yuri Berchiche managed to reduce the hosts’ lead, it was not enough for the Basque giants to avoid defeat at the Benito Villamarín.
Joaquin, who is 38-years-old, has just scored a hat-trick in the opening 20 minutes of Real Betis vs Athletic. Like a fine wine.🍷👏 pic.twitter.com/Jw2TFDlZxU— SPORTbible (@sportbible) December 8, 2019
It took Joaquin only 20 minutes to tear Bilbao defense apart and overtake the record previously held by the late Real Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano.
Di Stefano was 37 when he set the record in 1964, and the former Fiorentina winger managed to beat it by scoring a treble at the age of 38, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spaniard has hit a purple patch lately, racking up five goals in the last three La Liga appearances to help his side overcome a severe crisis and climb to 11th in the table.
