Boateng reveals why he turned down Man Utd move

German defender Jerome Boateng rejected a move to Manchester United in the summer despite widespread interest. PSG also made approaches for the centre back who decided to stay put at Bayern Munich. It was no secret that that United were openly looking for a new centre-back with Boateng a top target. However, he revealed that it was difficult to leave Bayern. ” I had enquiries from PSG and Manchester United. I did not want to just get away from Bayern but I was thrilled to try a new challenge. I feel well at Bayern. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he told Bild.
Boateng called Mourinho to inform him of his decision to stay at Bayern.
United in particular were keen to strengthen their defence. Reports indicated that Leiceter City’s Harry Maguire was also on their wish list. Belgium’s Toby Alderweireld was also an option for the Red Devils. Professionally, Boateng reached out to Jose Mourinho to explain his reason.“I called Jose Mourinho. I told him that his interest was an honour for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club,” he concluded.
