Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has opened the door to Mauro Icardi and James Rodriguez to join the club this summer with his latest statement
Having returned to Real Madrid after a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich, the Colombian playmaker is seeking a way out of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu after being deemed surplus to requirements by the boss Zinedine Zidane.
The Partenopei have been heavily linked with a move for the 27-year-old over the past few weeks, with Ancelotti looking for a reunion with his former protégé.
Familiar with Rodriguez’s capabilities after the two worked together at both Real Madrid and Bayern, the Italian manager is eager to lure him to the Stadio San Paolo this summer.
“He is a player I know well, and he is true quality,” Ancelotti answered when asked about the former AS Monaco star.
“Unfortunately, he is not a Napoli player yet…maybe he never will be, or maybe he will!
“Let’s talk about James once he becomes a Napoli player, as we do with other players. If today a manager from another club spoke about a Napoli player, I wouldn’t be happy.”
Meanwhile, the unsettled Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has also been mentioned as Napoli’s potential target after being placed on the market by the Nerazzurri hierarchy.
The Argentinean was told to find a new club by the Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta a couple of days ago, but a prospect of staying in Italy where he spent seven years may be tempting for the 26-year-old.
Ancelotti has hailed Icardi’s qualities, opening the possibility of landing the former Sampdoria forward, who has also attracted the interest of Juventus.
“Icardi is a great player, held in high esteem by all of us, by me as well,” the Italian coach stated.
“All these names of such important players…it is positive they are mentioned next to us.”
