Chelsea have reportedly accelerated their efforts to snap up Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, multiple reports in Italy and England confirm
According to the Italian publication, Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by the talkSPORT, talks have kick-started for Milinkovic-Savic to swap Lazio for Manchester United for around £80million.
Sergej joined Lazio from Genk in 2015 and has gone on to make 197 appearances for the Serie A side and become one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Italy’s top-flight.
During his rise to the stardom at the Stadio Olimpico, the 25-year-old Serbian star has accrued 37 goals and 26 assists in all competitions, catching attention from a host of Europe’s top clubs.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, and Real Madrid have all shown appreciation for Milinkovic-Savic’s services.

But, the Blues have already made their move to beat stiff competition for the midfielder’s signature, opening up talks with Lazio over a summer deal.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have been quite busy this summer, spending almost £87m on RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech, as Frank Lampard looks to assemble a squad able to compete for the Premier League title next season.
But, Chelsea are unwilling to slow down any time soon, as they also continue to pursue the likes of West Ham’s Declan Rice, Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
Lampard’s team are on their way of landing the Champions League qualification for the next season. Chelsea sit two points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, with five Premier League fixtures left to go.
