Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of beating Liverpool to the RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, according to shock claims in England
Jurgen Klopp is a long-term admirer of his compatriot and has put him at the top of his summer wishlist, but Werner’s £53m release clause has deterred Liverpool from making a move so far.
Runaway Premier League leaders’ pursuit of the 24-year-old striker has now suffered another setback, as Chelsea stepped up their interest in the Leipzig talisman.
Unlike the Reds, the Stamford Bridge outfit don’t have to worry about the financial fallout caused by the coronavirus pandemic after sitting out the last two transfer windows due to a ban.

Chelsea have the economic capacity to meet Leipzig’s demands and afford Werner’s considerable salary, which puts them as the frontrunners in the race at this point.
Frank Lampard is desperate to land a prolific striker ahead of the new season since Michy Batshuayi is edging closer to the exit after being frozen for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.
Lampard’s only reliable attacking option this season has been Tammy Abraham, while Olivier Giroud and Batshuayi have been restricted to playing second fiddle to the young Englishman.
Although the French striker was heavily linked with a transfer, the English manager has persuaded Giroud to stay put in London after assuring him that he will get more game time.
