Chelsea have reportedly identified the Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens as their top defensive target for the upcoming transfer window, according to reports in England
Frank Lampard is keen to bolster his defensive options in the summer, with an emphasis on a left-back position, and has already set his sights on Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
Although the 23-year-old England international sits at the top of Chelsea’s wish-list for a while, Leicester’s £50million asking price has forced the Blues to search for alternatives.
As reported by the Metro, the Stamford Bridge outfit have now named Atalanta’s Robin Gosens as their primary objective for the summer transfer window, when it comes to their defensive reinforcements.
Unlike Chilwell, the 26-year-old Dutchman will be available for around £27million, with the Serie A side prepared to listen to potential offers for their star defender.

Gosens arrived in Bergamo from the Eredivisie club Heracles in 2017 for just £1million and has become an indispensable first-team member since, recording 100 appearances for La Dea.
Only this season, the attacking-minded left-back has notched ten goals and chipped in with eight assists in 38 outings in various competitions, which makes him the most productive defender in Italy’s top-flight.
Inter Milan, Juventus, and Hertha Berlin have already set their eyes on Gosens, but Chelsea are ready to step up their interest to outplay the competition for the Dutchman’s services.
Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have both failed to convince Lampard of their capabilities to deliver consistent performances week in, week out, and could leave west London this summer.
The Brazilian left-back seems more likely to leave the Premier League giants when the transfer window reopens for business after making just 13 league starts this term.
