Chelsea have reportedly entered the race for the Barcelona left-back Marc Cucurella, currently on loan at Getafe, according to reports in England
Cucurella has gone from strength to strength in Jose Bordalas’ set-up, managing a goal and four assists in 26 La Liga starts for Getafe this season.
The 21-year-old’s impressive performances, both as a left-back and a left-winger, have not gone unnoticed, with a host of clubs across Europe setting their sights on him.
As per the British publication, Sports Witness, Chelsea are the last in a long list of suitors interested in capturing the Spaniard’s services, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and few other clubs from Spain and Germany also staking their claim for the player’s signature.
Although Marcos Alonso regained his best form under Franck Lampard lately, the English manager is eager to reinforce the left-back position after Emerson failed to deliver expected displays.
A ‘healthy’ competition could benefit both Alonso and Cucurella and help them further improve their level of performance.
After enjoying an outstanding campaign at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, the La Liga outfit will reportedly make Cucurella’s transfer permanent at the end of the season by exercising his €6m buy-out clause.
However, it seems highly unlikely that Getafe can keep hold of the in-demand youngster beyond the summer, and a new €25m release clause could at least full their pockets for the summer spending campaign.
