Delighted Maurizio Sarri hopes to see more of the same in the future

Chelsea managed to overcome a 1-goal deficit from the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals to dump Tottenham Hotspur out of the competition after a penalty shoot-out

The Blues suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Wembley Stadium a fortnight ago but pulled off a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge.

After a dominant display that saw his team reaching the big final, Maurizio Sarri has urged his players to rediscover their enthusiasm.

“I think the last three, four matches we had a problem,” he said.

“The problem was the motivation. The other problem was the players stopped to have fun on the pitch.”

“Now, with the performance, with the result, we can find again enthusiasm. So it’s very important.”

The Pensioners have been going through a turbulent period lately, losing three of their last eight outings across all competitions.

Moreover, it was only the third time Chelsea have scored more than one goal per match in the previous seven competitive encounters.

Therefore, a victory over the London rivals can prove vital in Chelsea’s pursuit of Champions League promotion.

Not only they’ve bounced back from last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League, but they demonstrated an impressive football on Thursday night.
