Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina between Inter and AC Milan exceeded all the expectations, delivering the neutral fans one of the most exciting games of the season
Probably the best Serie A match of the 2019/20 campaign saw Inter pull off an astonishing second-half comeback to beat bitter rivals 4-2 and leapfrog Juventus at the top of the table.
Antonio Conte’s men were utterly outperformed at the San Siro in the first half by the Rossoneri, who headed to the break with a 2-0 lead thanks to Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But, the halftime talk seems to have done more good to the Nerazzurri, who managed to cancel Milan’s inside the opening ten minutes of the second half through the likes of Marcelo Brozovic and Matias Vecino.
Inter continued to build momentum through the second period, with Stefan de Vrij’s header in the 70th minute completing the turnaround, leaving Stefano Pioli and his players in disbelief.
Yet, Milan nearly found the equalizer in the dying moments of the encounter, but Ibrahimovic’s header deflected off the right post.
The punishment for Zlatan’s miss came just three minutes later when Romelu Lukaku met Victor Moses’ inch-perfect cross to seal Inter’s magnificent triumph that propelled them back to the top.
