Erik ten Hag admits Ajax won’t be able to prevent De Ligt’s departure

Erik ten Hag has confessed that Ajax have ‘zero chance’ of keeping hold of Matthijs de Ligt at the end of the season

Arguably the most talented defender in Europe at the moment, the 19-year-old has drawn attention from several notable Europe outfits, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Juventus.

La Liga giants are said to be in the driver’s seat after capturing the signature of De Ligt’s fellow teammate Frenkie de Jong earlier this year.

The Catalans are working around the clock to link up the two wonderkids at Camp Nou, as they prepare to replace the injury-prone Samuel Umtiti in the summer.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that the Lancers won’t be able to keep the club’s captain in the Eredivisie, with Barcelona and Bayern rising pressure in the recent period.

“There’s zero chance Matthijs de Ligt is staying at Ajax,” former Pep Guardiola’s assistant said.

“There are so many clubs interested in him. He will leave us this summer, but I don’t know whether he’ll join Bayern or Barcelona.”
