Wantaway Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has emerged as Chelsea’s January target, according to Franck Lampard
Cavani will become a free agent at the end of the season after PSG refused to extend his contract and has already found himself on the radar of several major European clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.
Although the La Liga outfit seemed to be on the verge of signing the Uruguay international, the negotiations with the reigning Ligue 1 champions didn’t go well, which has opened the possibility for other teams to hijack the transfer.
Franck Lampard might now try to get Cavani into his clutches to boost his attacking options and add another striker next to the name of Tammy Abraham, especially with Olivier Giroud being on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

"He is a great player, I played against him. I am not sure what the situation is there though. He has experience, sometimes it's good to bring in experience." 🤔#CFC pic.twitter.com/ijAtbIlQ7y
Asked about Chelsea’s potential interest in the 32-year-old, the Blues boss has replied: “He’s a great player. I played against him, and I always loved his mentality and his attitude and, obviously, his goalscoring record speaks for itself.
“I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see,” the English manager added, as per the Metro.
Speaking of whether the former Napoli man can bring experience to the Pensioners’ relatively inexperienced squad, Lampard said: “Yeah, he’s an experienced player but so are many other players out there.
“We are young as a squad, and we know about the transitions, so the idea of bringing in experience is certainly not something I’m looking away from because sometimes the younger players need a bit of help and if that’s the case then that may help us.”
