Real Madrid continue to gather momentum having stretched their winning La Liga run to five games
Los Blancos picked up their elusive first victory at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, beating Atletico Madrid 3-1 in Saturday’s La Liga derby.
A massive triumph over city rivals sees Real Madrid leapfrogging Los Colchoneros at the second place as they now go head-to-head with Barcelona for the league title.
The reigning European champions have taken full advantage of Atletico’s lackluster approach to become the first team to score two goals before the halftime break at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Gareth Bale, who replaced Vinicius Junior in the 57th minute, has scored in back-to-back La Liga road outings, sealing his team’s win in the 74th minute.
It was the Welshman’s 100th goal for Real Madrid in his 217th appearance for Los Blancos, and it was also his eighth goal against Diego Simeone’s crew.
Bale’s landmark strike has put clear daylight between the sides, eventually firing Real one point above Los Rojiblancos.
Santiago Solari’s men now prepare to tackle Ajax in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
