On the eve of the Serie A derby between AC Milan and Juventus, the Rossoneri boss has gone public to encourage the fans amid an injury crisis at the Stadio San Siro.
The Italian giants were held to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Benito Villamarin to Real Betis on Thursday’s Europa League clash. However, the injuries of Matteo Musacchio and Hakan Calhanoglu gave AC Milan supporters a couple of additional reasons to worry.
Mattia Caldara and Lucas Biglia are already sidelined by nasty looking injuries, with Andrea Conti heading towards recovery, but won’t be facing the arch-rivals as things stand.
Therefore, the 7-time Champions League winners could enter the big showdown severely weakened, but Gattuso refused to search for an alibi.
Gennaro Gattuso: "There’s no point thinking about it, we’ll play who we’ve got and will wage battle, as looking for alibis will get us nowhere"https://t.co/SDYog0xPTN #ACMilan #MilanJuve #MilanJuventus #UEL #SerieA #BetisMilan pic.twitter.com/DSI16QJLI5— footballitalia (@footballitalia) November 8, 2018
“Musacchio’s injury was a collision, but knowing his temperament, he’ll do everything he can to recover and play this weekend,” the ex-Rossoneri midfielder said.
“Calhanoglu had the usual knock to the top of the foot. We’ll see.
“I have to wait for what the doctor says, as I am a coach and not a doctor. There’s no point thinking about it, we’ll play who we’ve got and will wage battle, as looking for alibis will get us nowhere.
“Now we’ve got two and a half hours to fly back and do some work on the plane. Juventus are one of the best sides in Europe, let alone Italy, but we won’t sit here crying into our hankies. We’ll face them and play our football.”
After a slow start of the season, AC Milan have notably raised their game as they currently reside in the 4th place.
