Gianfranco Zola works around the clock to convince Italian prodigy to join Chelsea

According to the British newspaper, Metro, Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola is making maximum efforts to convince Cagliari starlet Nicolo Barella to join the Pensioners this winter.

The Blues have a long-standing interest in the 21-year-old midfielder, with Maurizio Sarri looking to step up his interest in the youngster after Cesc Fabregas played his last game for the London outfit.

The player himself has some doubts about moving to a top club in an early stage of his career and would prefer to remain at the Sardinia Arena until the end of the season.

On the other hand, Zola, who played for Cagliari, is persistent in his attempts to make his fellow countryman change his mind.

The two have spoken on the phone numerous times in the past few days, as Zola intends to take advantage of the fact he was the one to introduce Barella in the Calgiari’s first team.

Emerged as one of the most promising youngsters, Barella has registered 18 Serie A starts this season, scoring one goal in the process.

However, the Italy international won’t come cheap, as the Rossoblu demand at least £45m to let their brightest talent leave Sardinia.
