Inter Milan’s pursuit of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante has reportedly received a major boost after the Premier League side ‘softened their stance on the midfielder
Kante has endured a torrid season at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard’s tutelage, making only 22 Premier League appearances due to various injury setbacks.
Additionally, Lampard’s game set-up has seen the French midfielder’s influence on the team diminish over the course of the season, which made Chelsea consider selling the World Cup winner in the summer.
The 29-year-old had been considered as an indispensable part of the squad before the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, but that’s not the case anymore.
According to the Metro, the Blues are now ready to listen to offers for Kante, whose contract in west London expires in summer 2023.
Antonio Conte appreciates Kante’s qualities and is willing to make an offer for the former Leicester City man, as he looks to assemble a squad able to compete for the Serie A title next season.
However, Chelsea will probably try to get at least double of the £32million they paid Leicester to bring in the combative midfielder in 2016, which may blow the ‘Nerazzurri’ out of the water.
Moreover, Inter would likely have to convince Kante to accept a wage cut since they can hardly afford his whopping £290,000-a-week salary.
During his five-year spell in the Premier League, the Paris native has been named the Premier League Player of the Season once and has made it to the PFA Team of the Year twice.
