Barcelona shot-stopper Jasper Cillessen has admitted that he and Ajax prodigy Matthijs de Ligt have talked about the defender’s potential transfer to Catalonia in the summer
Emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Europe following a remarkable season with the Lancers, the 19-year-old has attracted interest from numerous major Europe clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
The reigning La Liga holders have already secured the services of Matthijs’ international colleague and now former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong, but they seem eager to pair up the highly-rated duo at Camp Nou this summer.
Currently performing for the Netherlands national team in the UEFA Nations League, Cillessen and De Ligt had a chance to talk about the youngster’s plans for the future.
“I sat down with him [De Ligt] to talk about all the options, but I did the same with Frenkie [de Jong].
“I told him that the decision belongs to him. Matthijs is a good boy, and he knows what he has to do.
“I talked to him but also told him that I cannot make the decision for him. He knows what he has to do.
“I can only talk about the good things about Barcelona because they are a great club and I have great feelings for them.”
