Jadon Sancho could return to England earlier than expected as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he is a big admirer of the Borussia Dortmund hotshot
Emerged as one of the most promising young talents in Europe under the stewardship of Lucien Favre, Sancho has been thrust into the spotlight ever since the Swiss manager took charge of the team back in the summer.
Author of an outstanding Bundesliga campaign with BVB, the 18-year-old forward has already gobbled seven goals and provided 11 assists in 22 league appearances so far.
Sancho enjoys a remarkable purple patch at Signal Iduna Park that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Several notable European clubs already keep close tabs on the youngster.
Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be interested in bringing the English starlet back to the Premier League, but Liverpool could rush into the race, according to Jurgen Klopp.
The German tactician has announced that he has already tried to lure the skillful winger to Anfield while he was still playing for the Citizens.
“Buying English players is a smart idea because we would never have a chance to get Sancho.
“We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him, and then we think ‘Can we get him?’ No. Because English clubs don’t sell to other English clubs.
“I don’t know exactly what the reason is for that but they don’t do it. Now they can go to Germany which is a wonderful league.”
Now that Sancho performs for Klopp’s former club, a deal can materialize without much fanfare.
The newly promoted England international could arrive at Merseyside in favor of Xherdan Shaqiri, who might leave Liverpool after a year of service.
Although the Reds forked out £13.5 million to sign Shaqiri in the summer, the ex-Stoke City man has failed to establish himself as a regular first-team member.
However, the German heavyweights are resolute in their decision to keep hold of Sancho having slapped a whopping £100m asking price to fend off interest from potential suitors.
