Juventus join Manchester United in race for Real Madrid defender

Juventus line up a massive summer move for Real Madrid superstar defender Raphael Varane, according to reports from Italy

The reigning Serie A holders are on the hunt for a new defender as their iconic defensive trio is not getting any younger.

Andrea Barzagli past his prime and could retire at the end of the season given he has endured a challenging campaign headlined by various physical problems.

Giorgio Chiellini (34) and Leonardo Bonucci (31) have been holding Juve’s backline this season, but the Bianconeri need a new centre-back to rejuvenate their aging defense.

With their attempt to lure Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt away from the Eredivisie came a cropper thanks to Barcelona’s interference, the Turin giants have focused their attention on Real Madrid’s Rapha Varane.

Along with Sergio Ramos, the Frenchman has been one of the cornerstones of Los Blancos’ defense during Zinedine Zidane’s first tenure.

However, some recent claims from Spain indicate the 25-year-old is poised to taste a new challenge and could depart the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

The World Cup winner with France won’t come cheap, nonetheless, with Florentino Perez expects to get around €100 million to renounce Varane’s services.

Moreover, Juventus will have to beat the competition from Manchester United who have a long-standing interest in the player and are ready to step it up as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
