Kai Havertz laughs off Bayern Munich switch

Kai Havertz has played down Bayer Leverkusen exit talks amid rumors of Bayern Munich’s alleged interest

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has enjoyed a stellar 2018-19 campaign with Die Werkself, managing 20 goals and seven assists in 42 top-flight outings under Peter Bosz last season.

Havertz’s remarkable attacking output in his third season in the Bundesliga has earned him three caps for the Germany national team.

Moreover, he has also drawn attention from the reigning German champions, Bayern Munich, who are overhauling the squad this summer.

Always attentive when it comes to domestic talents, the Bavarians have already held talks with the player and his entourage over a potential transfer in the future.

However, the youngster is keen to remain at the BayArena for at least one more year, as he hopes to fulfill his potential at his boyhood club.

Talking about his plans for the forthcoming season, Havertz has outlined his desire to continue with his current teammates before ‘making the next step.’

“For me, it has long been clear that I will spend the next season in Leverkusen, without any ifs and buts,” he said.

“I feel very well in Leverkusen, and I see a period here in which I can develop very well. At some point, I will take the next step.

“If it comes to that, then no one will be angry with me here. You just want to achieve the most possible in your career.”

Widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in European football, the 20-year-old is expected to become a leader at Leverkusen next season after Julian Brandt left the club to join Borussia Dortmund.
