Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele has faced harsh criticism over his childish behavior, with Kevin-Prince Boateng issuing a warning to the youngster
The ex-Ghana international joined the Catalans on a six-month loan from Sassuolo last January but has failed to make an impact.
After playing alongside the 22-year-old in the second half of last season, Boateng has given his assessment of the former Borussia Dortmund man by portraying him as ‘small child’ who lacks guidance.
Often criticized for his lackadaisical attitude, the France international has been struggling for form and regular first-team opportunities since completing a £136million switch to the Camp Nou in 2017.
The new Fiorentina acquisition has credited Dembele’s off-the-field behavior to the amount of money he is earning at Barcelona, insisting that his wages empower him to act that way.
“He is very calm, does not talk much. He is still like a child for me. You have to take him as he is and it may be that he’s late [to training],” he told Sport Bild.

🔊”He’s like a little kid that gains so much money, everything he does is public. You have to direct him to the right direction and If he doesn’t learn then that’s his fault.” he said pic.twitter.com/tNTUxWVH6d
“There are players who do that in defiance, but that’s different with him, he’s just like a little boy. One who earns a lot of money. One who is extremely public. You have to point him in the right direction.
“For me, he’s still a little boy who was thrown into this giant pool, suddenly cost €150m overnight, and still doesn’t know how it all works because he just wants to play football.”
Already penalized for being late to training seasons on numerous occasions, Dembele’s spot in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI is further jeopardized by Antoine Griezmann’s arrival.
Former Atletico Madrid star seems to has already nailed down the third spot in attack as his own, waiting for Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to return to action.
