Villarreal have reportedly tabled an offer for the wantaway Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to claims in England
Guendouzi has fallen out of favor at the Emirates following his bust-up with manager Mikel Arteta during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton back in June.
The 21-year-old midfielder has not featured for the Gunners since and is expected to move on in the summer as part of the club’s plan to raise funds for their spending campaign.
Selling the Frenchman is one of Arsenal’s top priorities for the summer, with five other fringe players also linked with a move away from north London.
Guendouzi has a host of admirers across Europe and won’t face difficulties finding a new destination.
As per the TEAMtalk, Villarreal are the first club to make an official approach for the £30million-rated former Lorient starlet.
Unai Emery, who severed ties with Arsenal in November 2019, replaced Javier Calleja at the helm of Villarreal only last month and is keen to make Guendouzi his first club signing.
Emery brought Guendouzi to the Premier League and now wants his former protégé to replace Santi Cazorla, who left the Estadio de la Ceramica to join Xavi’s Al Sadd back in July.
It’s still uncertain whether Villarreal’s bid matched Arsenal’s £30million asking price.
However, the FA Cup winners are willing to let their outcast leave on loan with an option to buy only to get his wages off the books.
Guendouzi has also been linked with a possible move to Barcelona as part of a player-plus-cash deal to bring Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League.
