La Liga side plot summer move for €150m-rated Rashford

La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly lining up a big-money move for in-form Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Rashford’s vast potential sparked into life in the 2019/20 campaign, where he racked up 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. The 23-year-old has carried his predatory form into this season, establishing himself as one of the most prolific players in the Premier League, along with his teammate Bruno Fernandes. Indeed, Rashford has enjoyed a stellar season so far, scoring 16 goals and assisting ten already. Already valued at around €150million, the Englishman’s price tag could soon sky-rocket if he continues to produce the same level of performance week in, week out.

Though he has never expressed any desire to leave Manchester United, Rashford could found himself exiting his boyhood club as early as next summer. The quick-silver forward’s blistering showings at Old Trafford have caught the eye of several high-profile European clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid. Both sides are desperate to bolster their teams following a dismal La Liga campaign that sees Atletico Madrid running away with the title already at this stage. There’s no doubt that both of these Spanish heavyweights can cover Rashford with gold to persuade him to leave the Theatre of Dreams. However, it’s the Catalan powerhouse that show more urgency to close the deal with United, as per the Daily Mirror.

Barcelona are in the midst of presidential elections that will determine the future of the club. So all operations regarding the transfer market are currently on hold. Barca will only start devising their transfer strategy once the new president is elected. For the time being, Joan Laporta appears to be the front-runner in the race. His reputation and connections would enhance Barcelona’s chances of landing players of Rashford’s caliber. To get to Rashford, however, the Spanish juggernauts may have to overcome some serious competition.

Various reports in England suggest Juventus are quite interested in pairing Rashford up with Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite establishing a long-term dominance in Serie A, the Bianconeri have faltered in the Champions League this past decade. Eager to transfer their domestic ruthlessness into the European front, Juve are looking for a game-changer to bolster their hopes of wrapping up their first international title in the 21st century. A player of Rashford’s quality and potential fits the bill perfectly, though they would likely need to break the bank to get the deal over the line.

On the other hand, Manchester United are reluctant to let go of their homegrown star. Well aware of the gem they have in their hands, the Red Devils are already working on tying Rashford down to a new long-term contract.
