Lionel Messi urges Barcelona to form up ‘MSN’ trident again

Barcelona stalwart Lionel Messi is reportedly eager for a reunion with Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar, according to recent claims

Messi, who was trying to broker Neymar’s return last summer, has now confessed to his closest friends that he wants the Brazilian back at Barcelona, says the Daily Star.

All of Barcelona’s attempts to lure PSG to sanction the transfer in the summer came a cropper, even though the reigning Spanish champions submitted several different lucrative proposals.

Barca and the Brazil superstar both left on their respective laurels in the end, but none seem to have benefited from the outcome of the summer negotiations.

The Argentinean has been shouldering the burden all by himself throughout the entire season, and with Luis Suarez ruled out with injury, he is expected to continue doing it should the club football resumes.

Antoine Griezmann, who occasionally showed glimpses of his Atletico Madrid form, has failed to live up to his €120million, not to mention Ousmane Dembele, who has spent more times nursing injuries than playing football this season.

No matter how 2019/20 ends for Barcelona amid the coronavirus threat to the ongoing club campaign, it had been an utterly disappointing season for the Catalans.

They remain in contention for the La Liga title, having gone to the break two points clear of Real Madrid at the summit, with the Champions League well within their grasp, too.

But, the Catalans seem to have lost their charming style, often struggling to entertain the fans even when they were winning, and it’s become obvious something has to be done.

Therefore, a reunion with Neymar appears to be a solution all parties will benefit from.

The prodigal son will return home and get the chance to fight for the Champions League and Ballon d’Or again, Barcelona will reassemble their prominent attacking trident, and PSG will get rid of the wantaway player that has started causing all sorts of problems in the dressing room.

Neymar left Barcelona to join PSG for a world-record fee of £198m in summer 2018 but has expressed his desire to return to the Camp Nou on more than one occasion over the past 12 months.

There’s a genuine feeling that the Brazilian fled to Paris to escape from Messi’s shadow only to find himself overshadowed by the French dynamo Kylian Mbappe.

Despite being a regular top-class performer in Ligue 1, arguably the best when he is fit, the 28-year-old’s career seems to have hit stagnation since he left La Liga.

It is now a near-certainty that his dream of winning the Ballon d’Or will never be fulfilled at the Parc des Princes due to the Parisians’ well-known problems in the Champions League.

Neymar possesses certain characteristics and self-confidence a very few players boast – his qualities are all top drawer, but he is still missing the ultimate reward for his contribution to top-tier football.

Once a core member of the all-star ‘MSN’ trident that many regarded as the best in the modern era, the former Santos star may have realized by now that the only way for him to receive the recognition he deserves is to reunite with his ex-teammates.
