Liverpool back in race for Brescia’s Sandro Tonali but Juventus remain in pole

Liverpool are reportedly facing stiff competition in the race for the highly-rated Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports from England

Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Tonali, but he will have to beat competition from Manchester United and Manchester City to close the deal, with Juventus currently in the driver’s season, as per the Daily Express.

Current Premier League leaders have recently discarded interest in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, as Klopp seems to be more interested in the Italian sensation.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Europe following his impressive two-year stint in Serie B with Brescia, where he was named Serie B’s Footballer of the Year in 2018 and the league’s best young player in 2019.

Tonali has shown his potential this season too, racking up a goal and two assists in Italy’s top tier, although his side continue to fight tooth and nail to avoid relegation.

Indeed, ‘Le Rondinelle’ currently sit in the relegation territory alongside the likes of Genoa and SPAL but are just one point adrift of the safe zone.

And while Brescia still hope for a hefty compensation fee when the moment comes for Tonali to depart the Mario Rigamonti, the player has already rejected the club’s proposal to extend his deal, which is due to expire in 2021.

Moreover, if the ‘new Andrea Pirlo’ remains until the end of the season and Brescia fail to preserve their top-flight status, his price will undoubtedly drop, which can invite other clubs to join the race.

Therefore, the reigning Serie A holders are interested in capturing the Italian’s signature this month after monitoring his progress for over a year.

But, the Premier League clubs are also keen on bringing Tonali, who is considered as one for the future, especially by the likes of United and City.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly also in the picture, as they’ve secured a top-class player the last time they brought in talent from Italy, in the shape of Marco Verratti.
