Liverpool created strategy to sign RB Leipzig star Timo Werner

Liverpool reportedly line up a shrewd move for in-demand RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner to see off the competition before the end of the season

Werner, whose deal at the Red Bull Arena runs out in 2023, has a £51million release clause inserted in his contract that must be triggered by April.

Heavily linked with a switch away from Leipzig, the 24-year-old has become a real target for several of Europe’s elite clubs, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, among others.

In order to beat the competition to the highly-rated Germany international, the Reds have come up with a plan that may benefit all three parties involved.

As reported by the Daily Express, the runaway Premier League leaders are ready to meet Werner’s release clause before the deadline only to leave him in the Bundesliga on a season-long loan.

Indeed, the all-star trio, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah are expected to spearhead Liverpool’s attack next season, which would leave the pacey German forward on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager would, therefore, like to give Werner another season with Leipzig to continue developing his talent before entrusting him with a prominent role at Anfield.

But, the one thing that casts doubt over this whole idea is that Mane and Salah will both represent their respective countries at the African Cup of Nations at the beginning of 2021, which would leave Klopp short of attacking options.
