Liverpool’s hopes of keeping hold of star forward Sadio Mane have been given a major boost, as Real Madrid shifted their attention towards Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland
Sadio Mane has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s top targets for the upcoming transfer window after starring for Liverpool over the past few seasons.
Zinedine Zidane is understood to have put the Senegalese forward at the top of his wishlist, with the Reds prepared to fight tooth and nail to fend off suitors.
At least according to the Express Sport, Jurgen Klopp can rest for a while, as Los Blancos have discarded their interest in Mane to focus entirely on bringing in Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.
The 27-year-old has been a foundation stone of Klopp’s revolution at Anfield, and his possible departure would be a massive blow to the German manager’s set-up.

Momo Sissoko says Zinedine Zidane 'really rates' the Liverpool star 👀
After an inspiring six-month spell at RB Salzburg, the Norwegian frontman has continued to showcase his prodigious talent at the Signal Iduna Park, netting 12 goals in his first 11 matches for the Bundesliga powerhouse.
Along with his fellow teammate Jadon Sancho, Haaland is widely regarded as the hottest property in Europe and is expected to secure a big-money move once the transfer window reopens.
Despite enjoying a stellar start to his new adventure in Germany, ‘Die Borussen’ value their prized asset at £50million a few months after forking out £18million in January to take him away from Salzburg.
A relatively modest asking price – considering today’s overhyped market – is likely to attract more suitors for the 19-year-old by the time the transfer window reopens, which could make it impossible for Dortmund to hang onto the up-and-coming youngster beyond summer.

But, if the La Liga giants miss out on snapping up Haaland or Mane, Zidane will be ready to trigger his backup plan, which involves the Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 30-year-old Gabonese superstar is only a third option for the French manager, who is eager to strengthen in his attacking line ahead of the new season.
One way or another, Zidane will get his clutches onto a household name in the next transfer campaign, as he prepares for overhauling a squad that has failed to meet the expectations this season.
In addition to Luka Jovic, who flopped miserably upon his big-money arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt, James Rodriguez is also edging closer to the Bernabeu exit.
Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard and Achraf Hakimi should return to the Spanish capital to fight for their place in Zizou’s starting XI following outstanding loan spells at Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
