Atletico Madrid star forward Luis Suarez is reportedly keen to land a new deal at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano after settling in well in the Spanish capital.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Luis Suarez is gunning for a new contract at Atletico Madrid, with his current one set to run out at the end of the season.
The Uruguay international switched Los Rojiblancos in summer 2020. He went on to soak up the limelight as Atleti’s headline performer en route to lifting the La Liga title in his maiden season in Madrid.
Suarez netted 21 goals in 32 top-flight appearances in 2020/21. Despite entering the twilight of his playing career, the ex-Barcelona stalwart is still one of the world’s fiercest strikers.
He has already tallied five goals in 11 outings across all competitions this season, including four in eight in La Liga. The 34-year-old continues to be Diego Simeone’s most trusted ally in the attacking third.
However, Suarez’s eye-catching showings have yet to help his cause, as Atletico hesitate to offer him a new deal. It’s understood that the club would be willing to extend the forward’s contract for another 12 months, though the player seeks at least a two-year deal.
With the remaining Simeone’s attacking options continuing to struggle in front of goal, Suarez remains a significant cog in Atletico’s machine. But the reigning Spanish champions reportedly want to make sure to grasp the player’s physical evolution before committing to extension talks.
