Lyon will reportedly look to cash in on the in-demand midfielder Houssem Aouar, closely followed by Juventus and Manchester City, reports say
Although reluctantly, Lyon may be forced to give up some of their headline performers in the summer transfer window after being denied European football for the next season.
Since the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season was curtailed, Les Gones finished in seventh and will, therefore, skip European competitions next year unless they win this season’s Champions League.
With such a prospect seems to be a long shot, the French giants are likely to encounter all sorts of problems in terms of keeping their star players, including Aouar.
The highly-rated up-and-comer’s outstanding displays in the Champions League over the past couple of years have earned him high acclaims from Pep Guardiola.
Indeed, the Manchester City boss has publicly revealed his admiration for Aouar, who could switch to the Etihad as a long-term replacement for the outgoing David Silva.
The reigning Premier League holders have the financial ability to afford the Frenchman’s €50m price tag and could make a move to concretize their interest in the summer.
Now, according to WhoScored, Lyon will have to renounce their midfield’s services to fill the gap in the budget that has been created as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.
But, Aouar has also emerged one of Juventus’ transfer targets, with the Bianconeri reportedly looking to inject fresh blood into their squad ahead of the new campaign.
With Miralem Pjanic’s future in Turin hanging by a thread, and Aaron Ramsey’s struggle to settle in Italy, the perennial Serie A champions are eager to recruit a new midfielder.
The 21-year-old ticks many of the boxes for the type of player Maurizio Sarri hopes to add to his team, and a possibility of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo could be enough of enticement the Bianconeri could take advantage of to lure Aouar to join.
