Man City eye up Harry Kane move

According to shocking claims in Germany, Manchester City have set their sights on one of the most prolific Premier League strikers, Harry Kane.

Despite boasting a star-studded squad jammed-full of world-class players, Manchester City have endured one of the most disappointing Premier League starts under the Qatari ownership. Indeed, Pep Guardiola’s men have won just half (7) of their opening 14 top-flight fixtures (D5, L2), heading into the new calendar year seven points adrift of table-toppers Liverpool. Though it’s a bridgeable gap, especially given the Sky Blues have two games in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s side, it’s a lack of ruthlessness in the final third that has been tormenting City this term.

Last season’s runners-up have only managed an average of 1.5 goals netted per Premier League match thus far, scoring twice per game in just 35.71% of their league outings (5/14)! One of the main reasons behind Manchester City’s underwhelming attacking performances has been Sergio Aguero’s long-term injury. The Argentine has featured just four times for City this season and has yet to find the back of the net. In the meantime, often criticized for his lackluster finishing, Gabriel Jesus has notched up only two goals in seven Premier League appearances.

As a result, Guardiola is now on the lookout for a new striker to spearhead the line at the Etihad Stadium. Adding to this sentiment, Aguero has less than a year left on his contract in Manchester and seems closer to leaving the club than staying put next summer. That said, the Spanish manager has been considering a few options to bolster the attacking department, with the one, in particular, catching his eye. It, of course, had to be the most highly-rated Premier League marksman, Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur’s ace has been nothing short of outstanding in the Premier League this season, adding nine goals and ten assists to his name already. Tottenham skipper is now on the verge of reaching double digits in terms of the goals bagged in a Premier League season for the seventh year running. Indeed, one of the most lethal forwards in England over the past few years has been impressive in scoring goals as in setting up his teammates.

The 27-year-old has racked up an intimidating 152 goals in 225 Premier League outings, winning the Premier League Golden Boot award twice in the process. Since he has been showing no signs of stopping his rampage anytime soon, Kane is an eligible candidate to shatter Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals scored. A move to a club of Manchester City’s caliber could prove decisive in the Englishman’s quest of becoming the best scorer in the history of English football.

Before Jose Mourinho arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Spurs were unable to mount a serious challenge on the Premier League. In fact, the London heavyweights are still chasing their elusive first major title since lifting the Carabao Cup crown in 2007/08. Given Kane’s staggering figures in the white kit, it seems unfair that he has yet to win any trophy. That said, several of Europe’s big guns, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Manchester City, have been linked with a move for the England star striker over the past couple of years.

Manchester City are now in pole position to lure Kane away from London, as per German outlet Bild. Guardiola is seriously considering the prospect of spending a fortune on Mourinho’s best player in order to regain control in the Premier League. However, the Englishman won’t come cheap, with Tottenham sticking to their staggering €300million valuation of their headline performer.

Due to a financial fallout of the coronavirus crisis, no club in Europe can meet the London outfit’s demands. Manchester City are reportedly willing to splash out €100million for the striker, which, however, comes nowhere near Tottenham’s asking price.
