Man Utd board directors hold emergency meeting over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer future

Manchester United powerbrokers have scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford following the Red Devils’ 5-0 thumping to Liverpool.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be counting his final hours at Manchester United after his side fell to Sunday’s embarrassing Premier League defeat to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s rampant side ran riot at Old Trafford, inflicting one of the heaviest Premier League defats on Man United in recent history.

Despite an aggressive recruitment drive in the summer transfer window, the Red Devils have endured an underwhelming start to the season so far, throwing Solskjaer’s future in Manchester into doubt.

Liverpool’s overwhelming victory at the Theatre of Dreams was an insult to injury as the three-time European Cup winners went into proceedings on a three-game winless Premier League run.

A run of poor form has seen United slip to seventh in the standings, eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea as they already face an uphill task of lifting their first Premier League crown in almost a decade.

Although Solskjaer long looked to be enjoying the trust from the Old Trafford hierarchy, the Norwegian now seems to be on the cusp of getting sacked.

Liverpool’s spectacular victory on United’s home turf appears to be the final straw as the 48-year-old now eagerly awaits a decision on his fate.

Speculation about Antonio Conte’s appointment has intensified over the past 24 hours, with the Italian emerging as the likeliest candidate to take over the managerial reins.

Conte has been out of work since severing ties with Inter Milan only a couple of weeks after guiding them to a long-awaited Serie A title back in the summer.
