Riyad Mahrez believes Manchester City have a perfect opportunity to break their Champions League curse this season if the competition returns to action August
Manchester City are still seeking their elusive first-ever Champions League title and were on the verge of reaching the competition’s quarter-finals before the coronavirus pandemic halted proceedings.
Indeed, the Premier League giants performed an outstanding comeback at the Santiago Bernabeu to beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
However, the COVID-19 crisis has postponed the return leg indefinitely, although UEFA hopes to have Europe’s most prestigious club competition back in action in August.
Speaking of Manchester City’s chances to finally claim the ultimate prize, the left-footed winger Riyad Mahrez has pointed out that the Citizens’ time has come.
“I think it is a good time to win the Champions League,” Mahrez said, as transmitted by the Daily Star.

“The Champions League is difficult, everyone wants to win it, so it is going to be a big battle.”
Indeed, with Liverpool now out of the picture and Barcelona far away from their best, Pep Guardiola’s men may not find a better chance to fulfill their dream.
Guardiola has yet to take City to the Champions League semi-finals since taking charge in 2016, but this season could probably be his best chance to replicate his success from Barcelona.
