Ole Gunnar Solskajer refused to confirm Manchester United’s interest in Aston Villa star Jack Grealish but heaped praise on him following the midfielder’s outstanding display at Old Trafford
The 24-year-old Englishman opened the scoring at the Theatre of Dreams with a spectacular goal, leaving the home fans bamboozled.
But the Red Devils managed to pull one back on the stroke of halftime and add another goal midway through the second half.
The Villans avoided defeat thanks to Tyrone Mings, leaving United hovering eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.
The outcome aside, it was Grealish who amazed the home fans and Solskjaer, as he almost single-handedly dictated the pace of the game throughout the entire first half.
During the post-match interview, the Norwegian manager was asked to confirm United’s interest in the potential England international.
“I can’t talk too much about other teams’ players if they are Man United caliber or targets,” the Red Devils boss said, as reported by the Metro.
“But a fantastic goal. I think he’s hit one of those corners that I’ve hit a couple of times.
“It was a great finish, but then again we should defend better and show him down the left.
“But what a goal, and he played a good game, definitely.”
Grealish has been tipped to make a switch to United on multiple occasions in the past, as a potential solution to their immense creativity problems.
Known for his vision, passing accuracy, and ball retention, Villa’s captain seems like an ideal candidate to become United’s new playmaker.
Although United’s move for Grealish is not excluded, the highly-rated playmaker is unlikely to leave Villa Park in January, with the returnees heavily relying on their skipper to help them avoid swift relegation.
